Research Interest

Her lab focuses on breast cancer. One in eight women inSpheroids Canada develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In spite of significant progress in early diagnosis and treatment in recent years, breast cancer still accounts for the second highest cause of cancer-related death in women. This is because traditional chemo- or radiation therapies fail to eradicate a small tumor cell subset called “cancer stem cells (CSC)”. These therapies kill a large majority of cancer cells which has limited capacity to divide, however relapses occur because of the surviving CSCs having unlimited self-replicating ability and resistance to these agents.
