Biography

Dr. Deborah M. McPhee is an Associate Professor of Human Resources Management at Brock University. Dr. McPhee holds a Bachelor of Administrative Studies (B.A.S.) from York University, an MBA from Schulich School of Business, York University, and a Ph.D. in Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations from McMaster University. Before pursuing an academic career, Professor McPhee worked for a number of years in industry as a senior Human Resources Professional. Previous employers have been Falconbridge Nickel Mines, NEC Canada Inc. and Nissan Canada Inc. Dr. McPhee previously sat on several committees at HRPA including Professional Standards and Education Standards, and at MINERVA Canada, focused on encouraging educational institutions to teach Health and Safety in the classroom at post-secondary levels.

Research Interest

Research interests include aging workers as it pertains to volunteerism in non profits, SMEs and their utilization of Human Resource advice, union participation, the unionization of graduate students, personality measures, recruitment and selection, particularly as it pertains to Aboriginal employees and parents coping strategies in children enrolled in high level hockey and health and safety, having written a number of cases associated with issues. All of her work discusses pertinent human resources policies required for organizational and personal growth. Please note that Dr. McPhee reverted to her maiden name in 2012. She was formerly Zinni.
