Biography
HE has a 20+ year career in emergency management and response as well as experience in leadership and adult education. HE has worked in high profile and high consequence industries including nuclear energy, public health, and wildfire management. His work has included response to many incidents and preparation of emergency response organizations through establishment of continuous improvement cycles. To do so, HE draws from his wide variety of experiences and lessons learned in real and simulated events. Hiss experience is supported by a strong academic foundation. HE has completed a Master’s Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management and a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Design and Development from Royal Roads University. In addition, HE has completed the Emergency Exercise Design Certificate program at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and hold a Forestry Technician Diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College. HE has many workplace certifications in health and safety, communications, management and leadership, coaching, and emergency management operations. These certifications include ICS 100-200-300-400, Ontario’s IMS 100-200-902, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (full course), WHMIS Instructor, Crew Resource Management, and Leadership. This combination of experience and education has allowed me to achieve accreditation as a Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers. HE keep in alignment with industry needs through research into best practices and active participation in several organizations. HE am a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI), Canadian Risk and Hazards Network (CRHNet), and the Evaluation Society of Canada. Shawn has earned the Certified Emergency Manager designation from IAEM and is working toward accreditation from each of these institutions.
