Biography
Dr Katherine Covell is Professor Emerita of Psychology and the former Executive Director of the Children’s Rights Centre at Cape Breton University. She has developed resources for teaching children about their rights, published numerous articles and five books on children’s rights, the most recent of which is Education in the Best Interests of the Child (Howe & Covell, 2013). As an advocate, she has worked with the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children, UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Canadian Government. Covell was the lead researcher for the UN Global Study on Violence Against Children, for North America in 2005. From 2007 to 2014 she represented North America on the International NGO Council on Violence against Children. She is currently living in Vancouver B.C.
