Biography
John Bergeron, founded Caprion Proteomics Inc. and serves as its Scientific Advisor. Dr. Bergeron also founded Caprion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 1998 and served as its Scientific Advisor. His expertise in subcellular proteomics and his skills in cell fractionation are reflected in numerous publications which have led to the uncovering of novel molecular machines in compartments of the cell. In addition, Dr. Bergeron is an editor of one of the leading journals in proteomics, Molecular and Cellular Proteomics. His unparalleled capabilities in cell fraction were honed by studying under the Nobel Prize Laureate George E. Palade, winner in medicine (1974) for his discoveries concerning the structural and functional organization of the cell. Dr. Bergeron was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the senior national body of distinguished Canadian scientists and scholars, in 1995. In 1999, he was named the David L. Thomson Lecturer for outstanding contributions in molecular biology and biochemistry by a Canadian scientist. He is currently the Robert Reford Professor of Anatomy in addition to being the Chairman of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University. Dr. Bergeron earned a B.Sc. from McGill University and a D. Phil. in Biochemistry from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
