Biography

Dr. Turcotte is Associate Professor in Communication at Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto. At Carleton University, Dr. Turcotte lectures in advanced quantitative communication research, political communication theory and political management. He is currently involved in three specific and diverse research projects. First, he is examining the level of energy literacy – what do people know about energy, where it comes from, how it is produced and the public policy consequences of this knowledge. Second, he is looking at the state of democracy in Canada and tries to explain why Canadians in general and younger Canadians in particular have decided to remove themselves from the traditional political process. Third, he is the co-editor of the new (and first) Journal in Political Management. Over years of professional and academic involvement, Dr. Turcotte has developed a high level of expertise in quantitative analysis. Dr. Turcotte has given numerous speeches to professional and academic audiences. He has also contributed articles to academic journals and chapters in academic books – most recently “Boutique Populism: The Emergence of the Tea Party in the Age of Digital Politics”; “Under New Management: Market Intelligence and the Conservative Party’s Resurrection”; “Polling as Modern Alchemy: Measuring Public Opinion in Canadian Elections.” He is co-author of Dynasties and Interludes: Past and Present in Canadian Electoral Politics (2010)

Research Interest
