Biography
Darryl T. Davies received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan and his DIP CRIM degree in Criminology from the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, England. He has over twenty years experience in the Canadian Criminal Justice system and has held a variety of positions including: Research Consultant, Law Reform Commission of Saskatchewan; Director Public Participation, Correctional Service of Canada, Criminologist, Canadian Criminal Justice Association; Probation/Parole Officer, Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services; Senior Communications Officer on Firearms, Communications Branch Department of Justice. In addition, he has also conducted research for a number of Federal Government Departments including National Crime Prevention Centre, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Correctional Service of Canada. Professor Davies has published a number articles and government reports on a variety of criminal justice issues such as: the use of cautions, diversion, provincial offences, corrections research, gun control, community service orders, wrongful convictions, crime prevention, policing and sentencing policy. Professor Davies was one of ten professors selected for TVO’s 2009 Best Lecturer Competition and was nominated as a finalist for the 2010 Capital Educators Award which recognizes excellence in teaching, acting as a positive role model, and making a difference in someone’s life.
Research Interest
Wrongful convictions, risk focused and evidence based crime prevention, youth gangs, policing, criminal justice policy and research and evaluation.
