Lucie Fontein

Biography

After graduating from the University of Toronto with a professional degree in 1979, Lucie Fontein worked for 8 years in professional offices in Montreal and obtained her architectural registration before returning to School to do a post professional M. Arch. degree (History and Theory) at McGill University.  Her interest in the role of technology in architectural practice led her to teach in the areas of building technology and design studio when she started teaching at Carleton in 1992. Throughout her teaching career, Lucie has maintained a small private practice with projects in Ontario, Quebec, Vermont and Maine. Lucie’s areas of focus are on ethical practice and hospitable design.  Intrinsic to these is an interest in daylighting and electric lighting design. In 2009 Lucie reduced her appointment to a half time position (fall semester) and she now spends the other half of the year in the US, where she teaches in the winter semester at the University of Cincinnati.

Research Interest

Lucie’s areas of focus are on ethical practice and hospitable design.  Intrinsic to these is an interest in daylighting and electric lighting design.
