Biography
Michaël Kummert is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at École Polytechnique de Montréal. His research expertise and interests are in system-level modeling, optimization and control of thermal energy systems in the built environment. His main contributions include advances in the development of the TRNSYS simulation program, novel model-based predictive control algorithms and contribution to the practical application of state-of-the-art modeling techniques in designing sustainable building and community systems. He received the “Outstanding Young Contributor Award” from the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) in 2007. M. Kummert has collaborated with researchers at Carleton University to advance building performance simulation and develop a new co-simulation technique between TRNSYS and ESP-r, in a project funded by Natural Resources Canada. As an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, he is co-supervising graduate students investigating novel solar heating and cooling systems and advanced heat pump applications for low-energy buildings.
