Brock Mcewen

Biography

Brock McEwen is our Global Technology Director focused on water, helping pioneer and shape many of the world’s most advanced technologies within the water industry. Novel concepts, a belief that anything is possible and a pioneering spirit have shaped Brock’s career at CH2M. Joining the firm as a water process engineer, in 1984, after completing his master’s degree at Texas A&M, Brock has never looked back. “There’s nowhere else I would rather work, because at CH2M, we have the best people and the coolest projects to work on.” His attraction to water started at an early age and his natural love of water has morphed into a lifetime career of pioneering new technologies, inventing industry-leading, proprietary, software tools to expedite treatment alternatives evaluation and quality process design advancement, and becoming an expert in process engineering and project management for water reuse and drinking water treatment facilities and leading a team of technologists to accelerate solutions for a more sustainable water future for our world.  Inspired by turning challenge into opportunity, Brock has earned national recognition for his work in water treatment, including water process engineering and project delivery. He has worked on more than 80 water treatment plants, addressing tough operational challenges and ensuring regulatory compliance and authored more than 50 professional publications and presentations on the subject of water reclamation and treatment for potable drinking water supply. Although always maintaining a home base in Denver, Colorado, throughout his career, Brock has traveled the world to support interesting water treatment challenges. Some of his career highlights include: Providing technical support to the landmark Denver Water Department Potable Reuse Demonstration Project. Living in Phoenix, Arizona, for a year to conduct a Potable Reuse Feasibility and pilot study for the City of Phoenix. Living in Tampa, Florida, for a year to construct and commission an indirect potable reuse demonstration plant for the Tampa Water Department. Commuting bi-weekly to Southern California for 4 years to lead delivery of the original West Basin Municipal Water District water recycling facility. Traveling to Singapore to support launch the milestone NEWater indirect potable reuse demonstration project. Living in Auckland, New Zealand, for 6 months to lead process design of the Waikato water treatment plant for WaterCare. Living in London, England, for a year to transfer North American water management knowledge to United Kingdom water companies. With more than 30 years of experience, Brock has served in many roles at CH2M—first as a water process engineer, later as a principal technologist and regional technology manager, followed by global water reuse and water treatment technology leader to senior fellow water reuse technologist. With his roots in water reuse, Brock couldn’t be more excited and proud about CH2M receiving the 2015 Stockholm Industry Water Award for our leadership in potable water reuse. “Over the last 50 years, we’ve worked alongside our visionary clients on landmark projects to develop game changing technologies to advance and implement methods to clean water and increase public acceptance of recycled water. Receiving this award is quite an honor for CH2M and is a testament to our clients who trust us to work on some of the most complex and innovative projects out there.”
