Chris Hansford

Biography

As an apprentice, Chris has worked on some of CH2M’s most complex rail projects across the UK. He has been given the opportunity to simultaneously engage in hands-on, confidence-building, practical training in our industry while focusing on related theories in the classroom. Chris joined CH2M in September 2015. Since then, he has been an apprentice CAD technician with our rail team, producing and editing CAD drawings for a handful of crucial projects throughout the region. Most recently, Chris has been working on the Crossrail project, Europe’s largest rail infrastructure project, drawing up CAD Fire Plans for various locations along the route. He also tends to the academic side of his apprenticeship as he works, completing his NVQ tasks sent to him by his apprenticeship assessor. Chris says that the best part of his role is getting to work with supportive teammates. “When working in project teams, I have always found everyone to be very approachable, and I can easily ask questions if I need help with something,” he says. “We’re all focused on getting the job done, but equally on ensuring that we work effectively and to the best of our ability.” He mentions, “In solving real life problems, I’ve gained new skills. Also, as part of my apprenticeship scheme I was able to attend a site visit at the new Crossrail station located at Canary Wharf, which in turn has helped me better understand the kind of work being undertaken. Each job presents its own unique challenges, which has helped me in my development.”
