Jeff Rankin

Biography

eff Rankin is CH2M’s Operations Lead for Transit Services and Senior Project Manager for Vehicles on the Metrolinx Rail Transit Program in Toronto. Jeff leads a team of Metrolinx and consultant staff working in a collaborative environment to advance unique and innovative technologies in transit design. For example, when his Metrolinx client asked for a standardized rail vehicle to operate on a variety of new transit lines (including an elevated structure, tunnels and on street medians), he worked closely with the vehicle builder, client staff and his CH2M colleagues to develop the specification. Innovations in design included a level boarding system so that entry onto the vehicle is safe and accessible to everyone. Says Jeff, "We solve complex problems together - sitting side by side with Metrolinx and other consultant staff every day, working as an integrated team. We are so embedded that we forget that different organizations sign our paychecks." Jeff is passionate about researching emerging technologies and exploring different approaches that will help him meet his clients’ goals. For the Toronto Transportation Commission, he supported the development of the specifications and the procurement process for one of the largest light rail vehicle procurements in North America.
