Richard Gehring

Biography

Richard Gehring is a process engineering manager at CH2M, helping to elevate and identify technologies that will enable our chemicals clients to thrive through more efficient and cost-effective performance. More than 31 years of working in the chemicals industry have shown him that it takes great clients and a willingness to innovate to be successful. He shares, “It’s like cooking at home. The recipe you get from the cookbook is the tech we get from chemists and technology providers. We use unit operations the way a cook uses a stove: you take the recipe and mix, separate, heat, or condense the chemicals. Instead of combining and transforming ingredients in an optimal fashion to make a delicious dish, we purify and rearrange our feed stocks with heat, pressure, and catalytic agents to maximize valuable products, minimize unwanted byproducts, decrease energy costs, and maximize profitability for our clients. We know the recipe, but as process engineers our job is to make sure we have the right ingredients in the right quantifies and purities, the right processing steps and tools, and that everything ‘cooks’ at the right temperature for the right amount of time. And not only that, we also make sure that everything is done safely.”
