Biography
Dr. Altman is a professor of bioengineering, genetics, and medicine (and by courtesy, of computer science) and past chairman of the Bioengineering Department at Stanford University. His research interests include the application of computing and informatics technologies to problems relevant to medicine; uncovering methods for understanding drug action at the molecular, cellular, organism, and population levels; discovering how human genetic variation impacts drug response; and analyzing biological molecules to understand the actions, interactions, and adverse events of drugs. Dr. Altman holds an AB from Harvard College, an MD from Stanford University School of Medicine, and a PhD in medical information sciences from Stanford University. He received the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and CAREER Award.
