Biography
Mr. Vern J. Brownell has been Chief Executive Officer of D-Wave Systems Inc. since 2009 and serves as its President. Mr. Brownell founded Egenera, Inc. in 2000 and served as its Executive Vice President since February 2004 and Chief Strategy Officer since October 2006. Mr. Brownell served as Chief Technology Officer of Egenera Inc. from February 2004 to October 2006 and also served as its President and Chief Executive Officer from March 2000 to April 2002 and again from February 2003 to February 2004. From April 2002 to February 2003, Mr. Brownell served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Egenera and from March 2000 to October 2000, he served as its Corporate Secretary. Prior to founding Egenera, from July 1989 to March 2000, Mr. Brownell served in various technology roles, most recently as Chief Technology Officer at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he and his staff of 1,300 were responsible for worldwide technology infrastructure including computing platforms, datacenters, data networking, telecommunications and trading-floor operations. Prior to his tenure at Goldman Sachs from 1986 to July 1989, Mr. Brownell served as Manager of Engineering at Stratus Computer Inc., the predecessor company to Stratus Technologies, Inc., and as Manager of Engineering at Ztel Corporation from 1983 to 1986. He also served at Digital Equipment. He serves as a Director of D-Wave Systems, Inc. He has been a Director of Egenera, Inc. since March 2000. He served as a Director of Copan Systems, Inc. Mr. Brownell holds a B.E.E.E. degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Anna Maria College.
