Biography
Kara Pecknold graduated with a degree in English Literature, taught business communications in Eastern Europe and led educational teams in Thailand. But it was her ongoing fascination with language, design and the global impacts of each that led her to return to Vancouver and pursue an MAA in Design at Emily Carr, where she focused her research on cross-cultural design process. Most recently, this work has been included as a case study in IDEO's Human-Centered Design Toolkit. Kara has worked as a design research consultant to investigate the role of design in both health care and energy consumption and was invited to collaborate with a UBC professor to design tools for a national food fortification strategy. She is inspired by sustainable design for global impact and aims to pursue projects where she can explore appropriate and accessible solutions for those on the periphery.
