Biography
Sheila received an undergraduate degree in Art History and a Master’s Degree in Photography and Printmaking from the University of British Columbia. She has received numerous grants and her work is shown internationally. After teaching at SFU she came to Emily Carr where she has made Foundation and Critical studies her base for the past 17 years. She is an active participant in the artistic community, is the past president of the Contemporary Art Gallery and past chair of the Vancouver Public Art Committee. Sheila is currently the advisor to Visual Arts and the Prior Learning Assessment Coordinator for Emily Carr. Her interests include the histories and constructions of family and communities both urban and rural; the relationship between contemporary art practice and public space; teaching, assessment and the critique as forms of learning; digital technology as applied to contemporary practice; global outreach and sustainability in relation to the arts.
