Biography
Doug began his career at a small Ottawa patent agent firm (Seaby, Proulx and Palmer) after graduating from Carleton University in 1988 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He trained in all aspects of intellectual property, including trademarks, industrial designs and patent searching, as well as industrial design and patent drafting and prosecution. Doug was awarded the Marie Morency Prize in 1991 for obtaining the highest mark on the Patent Drafting Section of the Patent Agent’s Exam. Subsequently, he worked for the Ottawa office of a large international patent firm (Marks & Clerk) becoming proficient in all aspects of Canadian prosecution. Doug then tried his hand at corporate practice joining JDS Uniphase Inc, becoming familiar with photonics and optics. For the last 14 years Doug has been in private practice as a partner with Teitelbaum & MacLean. Doug spends his free time golfing, curling, playing softball, and spending time with his wife and two kids.
