Biography
Simeon N. Cumberbatch is a retired City of Hoboken New Jersey Police Captain with over 35 years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience. Serving in a supervisory capacity for 22 of his 29 years with the department, he accrued comprehensive knowledge in both uniformed and administrative disciplines. He was the department’s first minority to attain the command ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and captain. Professor Cumberbatch is certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission to instruct at New Jersey’s police academies and was a lecturer with the Center for Law Enforcement Studies and The Key Testing Group. There, he helped prepare individuals aspiring to attain positions ranging from patrolman to chief of police via the New Jersey State Department of Personnel competitive examination process. Professor Cumberbatch earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Jersey City State College and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Seton Hall University. In the ten-year period between 1992 and his retirement, Captain Cumberbatch was exclusively designated to serve as Acting Police Chief and was similarly hand-picked as Incident Commander during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
