Biography
Dusty MacDonald is President/Chair of the Board of Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). He was first elected to the FCL Board in 2009. In 2012, he was elected Vice-Chair and in 2014 he was elected to his current role. He also represents the 18 retail co-ops in FCL’s district 8, which covers the southeast corner of Saskatchewan. As President/Chair of the Board, Dusty is primarily responsible for the functioning of the democratic decision making structure that guides the activities and affairs of FCL. He provides strategic leadership to the Board and guidance towards achieving excellence in co-operative governance. He also provides the key link between the Board and the Senior Leadership Team and represents FCL in its relationships with other co-operatives. Dusty acts as Chair of the Board’s Governance Committee, is a member of the Code of Conduct and Ethics Committee, and serves as ex-officio on all other Board committees. He is also an FCL Board delegate to Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada and The Co-operators. Dusty received his ICD.D designation after successfully completing the Institute of Corporate Directors – Directors Education Program (DEP). The DEP was jointly developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, to help directors clarify their governance mission and fully exercise their leadership potential as a board member. It is the only professional designation for Canadian directors recognized nationally and internationally. Dusty has been a member and supporter of retail co-ops and credit unions for over four decades. He has been employed on the governance side of co-ops as well as serving a leadership role on several boards as an elected representative. Dusty has also shown his commitment and passion for co-operatives by leading a volunteer technical co-operant mission to Costa Rica for the Canadian Co-operative Association. Dusty and his wife Cheryl have three grown children.
