Alfred Smithers

Biography

Fred is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Iona Resources Holdings Limited. He was founder and former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Secunda Group of Companies. For six consecutive years, Deloitte & Touche named Secunda Marine Limited one of the “50 Best Managed Companies in Canada.” Fred sold Secunda Marine Services to J. Ray McDermott, an NYSE-listed company, in 2007. In 2003, Fred was named one of the “Top 50 CEOs of Atlantic Canada,” and is a member of the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame. He received an Honorary Diploma from the Nova Scotia Community College and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Commerce from Saint Mary’s University. With a history of past board appointments, Fred currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Dartmouth General Hospital and the Advisory Board of Atlantic Signature Mortgage & Loan. He is a recipient of the Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Award, an Officer of the Order of Canada and the Honorary British Consul.
