John Reynolds

Biography

Dr. Reynolds received his PhD in Immunology at the Australian National University, Canberra, in 1976. He did postdoctoral work at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, UK and in 1979 he became a member of the Basel Institute for Immunology, Switzerland.   In 1983 Dr. Reynolds joined the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor in Physiology & Biophysics after receiving a Scholarship from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. In the subsequent 25 years Dr. Reynolds’ laboratory has studied the development of B lymphocytes.    Dr. Reynolds has been active in the Canadian Society for Immunology (CSI) since 1983, serving as President and organizer of several annual conferences. His contributions to the CSI were recognized in 2008 by the creation of the John D Reynolds Award which is an annual award for outstanding contributions to the CSI. In the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Reynolds has served as Chair of the Gastrointestinal Research Group (1989-91) and the Immunology Research Group (1992-96), Director of the Microscopy and Imaging Facility (2001-02), Center for Toxicology (2005-6) and the Flow Cytometry Lab since 2002. He was Head of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy from 1999 to 2004, Associate Dean Basic Research (2005 - 2013). He is currently Associate Vice President Research, University of Calgary. Dr Reynolds has been a member of the board of Research Canada since 2012. Dr. Reynolds received his PhD in Immunology at the Australian National University, Canberra, in 1976.
