Biography
The first time Michael Guggemos set foot in Oklahoma was to accept his master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Long before online education, Mike earned his Master of Public Administration — as well as degrees in sociology and Russian — by taking distance learning courses while at remote Army bases. Hardworking and perpetually curious, Mike always sets lofty goals and creates innovative ways to reach them. At age 17, he left high school to join the U.S. Army. He served 10 years, at different posts, including service across Europe and Asia. His military career taught him the value of global fluency and the importance of communicating across language and cultural barriers. Military service also showed him what quality people can achieve when properly equipped and working toward a common goal. Mike left the military in 1994 for a career at Motorola. He began by assembling cellphones on the night shift in Libertyville, Illinois. When the human resources department selected him to take over its training program, Mike displayed a keen sense for motivating employees to learn and develop their skills. His intuitive understanding of how people work with technology made him an effective leader across a number of disciplines, including manufacturing, engineering and enterprise product creation. His ability to identify goals and align different groups to achieve them brought him to Insight in 2010. Cited by both Computerworld and CIO Magazine for his leadership skills, Mike is active in the local community and works daily to focus the controlled chaos of corporate productivity toward the big bets of emerging technologies.
