Biography

Dr. Laurent Chatel-Chaix, University of Grenoble (France), and completed a Llicense of Cellular Biology and Physiology (1999) and a Master of Cellular Biology and Physiology (2000) in the context of an exchange with the University of Montreal, Canada. Staufen1 and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (Laboratory of Drugs, Luc DesGroseillers and Andrew Mouland). He carried out his first postdoctoral training (2007-2012) in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Lamarre (University of Montreal Hospital Center, Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer, Montreal, Canada) in which he discovered novel virus / host interactions required for the infection with hepatitis C viruses. Then, he carried on with his postdoctoral training at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) in the laboratory of Dr. Ralf Bartenschlager (2013-2016). Since then, his research focuses on the biology of dengue viruses as well as other Flaviviruses such as Zika viruses. Dr. Chatel-Chaix joined the faculty at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier in August 2016.

Research Interest

Infection with Dengue virus (DENV) represents a major public health concern since it causes the most prevalent arthropod-borne viral disease with an estimated 400 million individuals infected each year. More recently, the closely related Zika virus (ZIKV) emerges as a global priority since its infection can cause Guillain-Barré syndrome and severe microcephaly in newborns while it is transmissible both sexually and congenitally in addition to infection by mosquito bites. DENV and ZIKV are of particular interest to both the fundamental and clinical levels. Indeed, the mechanistic details known about their life cycle remain enigmatic and as a result, no antivirals or prophylactic vaccines are available against these important emerging diseases. DENV, ZIKV, and others. The results of this study are summarized in Table 1 . More specifically, we are interested in discovering novel viruses / host interactions engaged in the functional and morphological hijacking of specific cellular machineries by the viral replication factories. Immunology, immunosuppression, intracellular calcium homeostasis or RNA metabolism.
