Research Interest
Professor Gobeil's research aims to uncover the alterations in the biogeochemical cycles of elements caused by human activity and global warming. The issues addressed are related to the long-range atmospheric transport of trace metals, the identification of sources of contaminants in the environment, their records in sediment records, the carbon cycle and early diagenesis of sediments. The geographic areas where the activities are concentrated include the continental margin of the Canadian Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific coasts, and the Canadian Shield and Appalachian lakes. The work is based on measurements of the elementary and isotopic composition of the water column,
