Biography
Marie-Élise Parent is a full professor in epidemiology at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier. She obtained her B.Sc. in Nutrition (1984) from the University of Montreal, her M.Sc. in Nutrition - Option Epidemiology (1988) from the University of Toronto and her Ph.D. in Nutrition - epidemiology option (1994) at the University of Montreal. She then completed a postdoctoral training in environmental epidemiology at the Institut Armand-Frappier (1995-1998). Professor Parent is also an associate professor at the School of Public Health at the Université de Montréal in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and researcher at the CHUM Research Center. She conducts epidemiological studies on the role of environmental and occupational factors, lifestyle habits and genetic susceptibility in the etiology of cancer. Parent is particularly interested in methods of assessing chemical exposures in the workplace. His research has been funded by the Cancer Research Society in partnership with the Government of Quebec and the Quebec Research Fund - Health, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the National Institutes of Health (US-NIH), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario and the Ontario Ministry of Labor. Career awards were awarded to him by the Quebec Health Research Fund. Professor Parent has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committees of Prostate Cancer Canada and Health Canada. She has served on a number of peer review committees including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Quebec Health Research Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute, National Toxicology Program (NIEHS-NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NIH). She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Cancer Epidemiology . She has also served on the boards of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Society of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the National Institute of Scientific Research.
Research Interest
Prevention is the best weapon against cancer. The research activities of Professor Marie-Élise Parent aim to evaluate, using principles and methods specific to epidemiological research, whether the environment, lifestyle and genetic factors play a role in the etiology of Cancer. Her research program focuses on the prevention of prostate cancer.
