Dr. Joe Heng Lai

Biography

Dr. Joe Heng Lai received his Medical Degree from the University of Toronto in 2007 where he graduated with honours standing. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Queen’s University and also completed a Fellowship in Internal Medicine at Queen’s. An affable and highly qualified medical professional, Dr. Lai joined KMH in 2011 where he runs an internal medicine practice. Proficient at serving patient needs in all areas of internal medicine, he has particular interest in gastrointentinal disease, hematology (including coagulopathy disorders) rheumatology, endocrinology, CHF, COPD/asthma, hypertension, diabetes, and stroke prevention. Dr. Lai is the recipient of several awards and honours including the Juanita Thompson, M.D. Memorial award, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and the University of Toronto Open Scholarship. With a strong interest in research, Dr. Lai has conducted research on medical imaging in Canada, hypertension, arthritis and more for the Women’s College Hospital, Toronto; The Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto; and the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Toronto. He has also authored several Publications, Abstracts and participated in conferences. Active in the community, Dr. Lai has served as a mentor to inner city children aged 8-11 as part of the St. Felix Mentorship program which teaches organizational and self-initiation skills and fosters development of self-esteem. He has also participated in the ‘Let’s Talk Science’ program which provides interactive science activities for children to build positive attitudes towards education and to enhance life and employability skills.
