Biography

Originally trained in kinesiology at Laval University, Ariane Bélanger-Gravel quickly became interested in the motivational aspects associated with lifestyle changes. In fact, why do not individuals change their bad habits, despite the abundance of information on health and even the presence of a health problem? How is it that a person with a strong motivation to quit smoking continues this habit for years? How to effectively promote the adoption of an active lifestyle among the population? All these questions prompted Ariane Bélanger-Gravel to better understand these phenomena and led her to pursue graduate studies in the field of behavioral sciences. In this research, she is mainly interested in understanding and promoting different health-promoting behaviors. She is also interested in the evaluation of individual or societal interventions such as communication campaigns aimed at promoting health. Improving the health of the population is, without a doubt, its main field of professional interest. Fascinated by the acquisition of new knowledge in behavioral sciences, the transfer of these to practice environments represents in her eyes an important lever for change at the societal level. The challenge? Make an interdisciplinary bridge between public communication, social advertising and the different health disciplines from which it comes!
