Biography

As a public relations professional for more than 40 years, Bernard Dagenais practiced his trade at the municipal level (he was mayor for 14 years in the village of Sainte-Pétronille, on Île d'Orléans), at the provincial level communications from Québec's ministries of intergovernmental affairs, education and energy) and internationally (he was a press advisor at the Montreal World Expo in 1967, at the Quebec Delegation in Paris from 1968 to 1973, and the Munich Olympics in 1972 and Montreal in 1976. After having been a lecturer from 1974 to 1982 in various universities while continuing his professional activities, he became a full-time professor in 1986 at the Department of Information and Communication at Université Laval in Quebec City. Since then, his fields of interest cover three universes. It is devoted primarily to teaching and research. Bernard Dagenais holds a master's and doctoral degree in communication under the direction of Edgar Morin. He is the author of eight books, thirty scientific articles on public relations and several research papers. On the other hand, Bernard Dagenais frequently participates as a consultant in the development of public relations strategies for the benefit of institutions and companies of all kinds; he acts as a guest speaker at various events, symposia and congresses. He chairs the Board of Directors of the Preamble Communications Agency, which he founded upon his arrival at the university and which will celebrate his 25th anniversary in 2011. Finally, Bernard Dagenais acts as an expert in the courts on various issues affecting the world of communications, the image and reputation of individuals and companies. Bernard Dagenais is the only public relations practitioner in Quebec with both a Ph.D. (highest university degree) and a Fellow of the Canadian Public Relations Society (highest professional title).
