Biography

Eclectic. This is how Christian Desîlets defines himself - note the circumflex on the i "for orthographic concern". Eclecticism is advertising that demands it. "The advertiser can work on promoting breastfeeding in the morning, lather the local grocery store at noon and plan the campaigns for General Motors in the afternoon," said the one who spent 13 years with Cossette, from the drafting of communications plans to that of Vice-President and General Manager in Québec City. Christian Desîlets became a publicity by chance. After a master's degree in literature, he became a freelance writer, obtained a contract as a research officer and then as an information officer with the Commission des normes du travail, where he learned his job on the job. Hired by Cossette, he climbed all the steps until he arrived at the Department. Professor since 2006, he obtained his doctorate in 2013. His thesis was about the usefulness of the advertisements of the SAAQ which aim to incite the recalcitrants to modify their behavior on the road. However, the SAAQ studies and those of scientific research indicate that these campaigns have no significant impact in this regard. Christian Desîlets notes that it is the repressive measures that have the most effect but that the repression can only work with the consent of the population, hence the usefulness of advertising communication! The main challenge for the teacher in the coming years? Restructure, with colleagues, the social advertising program to make it a professional-oriented school agency with real clients. Next, create a research group and develop applied research.
