Francine Charest

Biography

Arrived since 2010, Francine has two careers, that of professional in public communication and that of professor. She specializes in public relations, e-reputation management and crisis communication and sensitive social media. For her, teaching is a way to share her passion for the trade, but above all to train a succession of talent in public relations. Upon her arrival at the Department, she set up the Social Media Observatory in Public Relations (OMSRP): a research laboratory that works on new practices in social media in collaboration with researchers, professionals and students of the Department. In just a few years, the Observatory has a strong network and team, and its work has already been the subject of scientific papers and presentations at conferences both in Canada and abroad. Under his leadership, the OMSRP can conduct its work with the support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Society and Culture Research Fund (FQRSC). Prior to becoming a professor, she spent more than 20 years as a consultant in agencies and media, where she developed numerous visibility campaigns, including Alcan, but also organized major events and launched complete programming for broadcasters such as Astral, which has entrusted it with the promotion of its specialty channels Historia, Séries + and Z. It was on the occasion of its research for the design of websites that formed part of its communication strategy that she finds a wonderful subject of doctorate and decides to embark on studies of 3rd cycle that finishes with the mention of excellence. She then publishes Les roots communicuelles du Web, a synthesis work inspired by his doctoral research. This book earned her a prestigious prize, which she received in Paris: the 2010 Medal of the Association of French Commercial Sciences. A second edition, The Web and Social Media Communication Roots, was released in the spring of 2013.
