Biography

From her childhood in Cap-Pelé, Acadia, she kept the sense of the sea. The sea, the horizon and far away, other civilizations. Always had an interest in the past. The story to get out of his comfort, to confront other values, to say no to the obvious. Josette Brun is a woman of contrasts: she likes the monastic spirit required by the work in the archives as she likes to "give the show" to 120 students. Shy, she goes for it. She likes to put herself in danger. That's what drove her into communication. As a journalist, she was also a publicist. She describes her current career as a "career fusion", a combination of her two areas of training: history and communication. She has a predilection for the history of women, the place of women in the media. She teaches media history, writing, social sex relations in the media. In her doctoral and postdoctoral studies, Josette Brun took a look at the lives of married and widowed people in the 18th century, which she describes in her book Life and Death of the Couple in New France. If, since its involvement in the Department, history is no longer a research subject in itself, it has become a critical perspective, a methodological tool. She has just directed a collective called Interrelations women-media in French America which she is particularly satisfied. She has also started a project that is close to her heart: the analysis of the magazine Femme d'aujourd'hui , broadcast by Radio-Canada between 1965 and 1982. "Little, I watched this show with my mother and my grandmother -mother, shoots Josette Brown, eyes shining. The past and the present intertwine, it's so stimulating! " The expression that comes up most often in the mouth of Josette Brun? " I am lucky ". Lucky to do this job, to work on topics that fascinate her. Is it also luck that put on his mother's road a little girl with big black eyes born in a distant village, close to the sea? The sea, the horizon, other civilizations.
