Biography
It was by chance that Jacques Lemieux took the Department. A sociologist by training, he studied working relations in the media when asked to join the team of professors. In 1973, the specialized baccalaureate did not exist, nor was the master's degree, and the sector was called Journalism and Information. As soon as he arrived as a professor, Jacques Lemieux was projected program director and union representative. Three years later, it was the 1976 strike. On his return, he obtained a leave of absence to finish his doctorate. It forks from the sociology of organizations to that of science fiction literature Sociology, culture and communication have constituted since the three pillars of his career as professor and researcher. Sociology, for the social reading of phenomena, of course, but also for the methodology of which he became the specialist. Associated with CRILCQ 1 , he has collaborated in numerous studies on cultural industries, best-sellers, soap operas, etc. He participated in investigations into relations between journalists and their sources. He was one of the designers of the evaluation mechanism for journalism programs in la Francophonie. From 2006 to 2011, he participated with a few colleagues in a funded research (FQRSC / Concerted Action) on the state of play of cultural industries in Quebec. This research concluded in 2011 on the publication of a collective book at the University of Quebec Press. Among all the roles he has played, Jacques Lemieux is particularly pleased to have left his mark in methodology (he trained more than 7000 students in the sample survey!) And to have contributed, as department manager, the development of the master's degree and the establishment of a doctorate in public communication.
