Dr. William J. Polvino

Biography

Dr. William J. Polvino served as the Chief Operating Officer of LifeCycle Pharma. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Helsinn Therapeutics (US) Inc since March 2007 and also served as its Executive Vice President. He joined Helsinn Therapeutics in April 2002. Prior to Helsinn Therapeutics, he served as the Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Acting Head of Development at Theravance (formerly Advanced Medicine, Inc). During his tenure with Theravance, he was responsible for bringing its first clinical development product, an anti-infective drug candidate, from identification of molecule as a Safety Assessment Candidate to first clinical trial in nine months through a combination of strategic outsourcing and creation of internal infrastructure. Prior to joining Theravance, he served in senior positions at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare and IBRD Center for Clinical Research. He joined the life science industry in 1991 and held various positions of increasing responsibility within clinical research, drug development, and senior positions at Merck, Wyeth, Theravance and Sapphire Therapeutics. He trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and obtained fellowship training in clinical pharmacology at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Polvino received his M.D. from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and his B.S. from Boston College.
