Robert L. Schaefer

Biography

Mr. Robert L. Schaefer, also known as Rob, C.A., has been Corporate Strategy Executive at Maxim Power Corp. since June 15, 2016. Mr. Schaefer has been Partner and Director of Paper Umbrella Private Residences (a property investment company) since 2008. He served as an Executive Vice-President of Trading and Marketing at TransAlta Corp., from April 2013 to October 07, 2015 and served as its Executive Vice President of Corporate Development from October 2011 to April 2013. Mr. Schaefer served as Vice President of Commercial Operations & Development at TransAlta Corp. Mr. Schaefer served as Vice President of Development for TransAlta Corp. and was responsible for its growth in thermal and renewable generation and related transmission initiatives in all geographies. He started his career in finance and immediately prior to joining TransAlta was Chief Financial Officer of Resin Systems, Inc. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of RS Technologies Inc., from August 29, 2005 to March 2008 and its Corporate Secretary from December 15, 2005 to December 2007. Mr. Schaefer served as the Vice President of Business Development at ENMAX Corporation where he was responsible for growth initiatives for a local electricity distribution company with interests in transmission, wind power generation and wholesale/retail energy businesses in Alberta. Mr. Schaefer served as the Chief Financial Officer of Pan-Alberta Gas Ltd., where he was responsible for all financial functions, new business development and the transportation portfolio for the second largest Canadian exporter of gas. He led strategic initiatives for Pan-Alberta Gas Ltd., including the successful divestiture of business from TransCanada PipeLines Limited to a consortium of over 400 oil and gas producers and later, the divestiture to Southern Company. Mr. Schaefer has a well-rounded commercial perspective, based on diverse and extensive experience in Business Development, Marketing, Trading, Risk Management and Finance. He has held positions of increasing responsibility, including Mirant Corporation. Mr. Schaefer has more than a decade of experience in senior financial positions with publicly-traded and privately-owned companies where he has been responsible for new business development, strategic initiatives and complex divestitures. He sits on the Board of the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank and is a Member of the Executive Market Task Force for AESO (Alberta Electric System Operator) representing TransAlta. He also sits on the Accounting Advisory Committee at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University and helped found the Harry G. Schaefer Mentorship Program at Mount Royal University in which he participates as an active Mentor. He is a Chartered Accountant designation in 1991. Mr. Schaefer studied Bachelors Degree in Commerce from the University of Calgary and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.
