John C. Currie  

Biography

John Currie is a partner in our Toronto office and the Practice Group Leader of the firm’s Real Property & Planning Group. Mr. Currie maintains a commercial real estate practice covering all aspects of real estate transactions, including large- and mid-scale secured financing, securitizations, construction contracts, asset management and development agreements, joint ventures, operating contracts, leasing and licensing. Recent transactions in which he has been involved include acting for lenders in respect of large-scale construction financings of office, entertainment and gaming facilities, multi-asset mezzanine lending and several Canadian CMBS securitizations. Mr. Currie is listed in the current edition of Chambers Canada as a leading lawyer in the area of real estate. He is a recommended lawyer by PLC: Which Lawyer? In the current edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada, Mr. Currie has been recognized as "Lawyer of the Year" in the area of Real Estate Law, and is listed as a leading real estate lawyer in The Legal 500 - Canada. He also appears in the most recent edition of The Lexpert® American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to Canada’s leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the areas of asset securitization, property development and project finance. Mr. Currie received his LLB from the University of Victoria and was called to the Ontario bar in 1997.
