Biography
Steven Mason is a partner in our Litigation Group in Toronto and the chair of the firm's National Intellectual Property Litigation Group. His practice is focused on intellectual property and related disputes. Mr. Mason is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. He has represented clients in a broad range of complex litigation in the Federal Court of Canada, the Superior and Appellate Courts of British Columbia and Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Mason has acted as lead counsel in many cases involving patent and copyright infringement and trade secrets. He is currently acting as counsel on some of the largest intellectual property cases in Canada. Mr. Mason also practised law at a large San Francisco-based U.S. law firm where he handled a variety of intellectual property matters, particularly in the high tech area. Mr. Mason received his BA from the University of Western Ontario and his LLB (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1994, and has been a member of the State Bar of California since 2001. He is admitted to practice before all courts in Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada, the United States District Court (N.D. Cal.), the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of International Trade and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mason is an adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Faculty of Law, where he teaches intellectual property law. He is regularly invited to speak about topics in the field of intellectual property litigation. Mr. Mason co-authored Intellectual Property Law in Canada: Cases and Commentary (Carswell, 2nd ed. 2013) and Copyright: Cases and Commentary on the Canadian and International Law (Carswell, 2nd ed. 2013).
