Research Interest
Clinical expertise extends through the entire range of Neuroanaesthesia, with special personal interest in Anaesthesia for neurovascular procedures / surgery including Interventional Neuroradiology procedures (GDC coils, etc.), Carotid Endarterectomy, and Aneurysm Surgery. I have also provided anaesthesia care -- and coordination services -- for both our recent cases of Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest and Giant Aneurysm Clipping. We represent one of only a small number of centres across Canada where these procedures have been successfully performed. My research interests at the moment focus on the dynamics of autoregulation, with special attention to the renal circulation and, more recently, to cerebral circulation and autoregulation. (The basic dynamics of organ blood flow autoregulation show intriguing similarities, likely related to at least one common mechanism!) I have expertise in the HP VEE visual programming environment for analog/digital data acquisition and conversion. At the furthest end of the spectrum, I am quite interested in the non-linear and non-stationary analysis of complex systems -- which certainly includes the autoregulation of renal, and cerebral, blood flow.
