Biography

Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta received her MD, CM degree from McGill University in 1993, General Internal Medicine certification (MUHC) in 1997, and MSc in Epidemiology (McGill University) in 1999, and worked as a community-based General Internist (Centre Hospitalier Hotel-Dieu d’Amos) between 1997 and 2002. She is now a Clinician Scientist with a research program that aims to provide concrete deliverables to optimize vascular health through behaviour change. She holds the Fonds de recherche Sante Quebec (FRQS) -Société québécoise d’hypertension artérielle (SQHA)-Jacques de Champlain Award and has over 50 published/in-press peer-reviewed articles. She leads the SMARTER trial (Step Monitoring to improve ARTERial health; CIHR MOP- 114996) that targets adults with type 2 diabetes or hypertension. The active trial arm intervention consists of usual care plus ‘step count prescription’ and pedometer-based monitoring by the treating doctor, over approximately one year. The control trial arm receives usual care. The primary outcome is change in arterial stiffness. She is also leads a study examining gestational diabetes in the mother as a potential risk factor for diabetes in the father (Canadian Diabetes Association) and a study of associations between neighbourhood walkability and step counts in diabetes, using Geographical Positioning Systems evaluations (Heart and Stroke Foundation).
