Biography
Born in Austin, Texas; June 30, 1967 Dual U.S./Canadian citizen Married, three children (aged 16 yr, 15 yr, 12 yr) American Astronomical Society, High Energy Astrophysics Division, Canadian Astronomical Society, International Union of Radio Science International Union of Pure and Applied Physics Education: 1993 Princeton University Ph.D. (Physics) 1991 Princeton University M.A. (Physics) 1989 McGill University B.Sc. Honors (Physics) I am a professor of physics at McGill University. My research centres on observational studies of neutron stars. I use radio and X-ray telescopes to study pulsars - rapidly rotating, highly magnetized neutron stars. Specific projects my research group is currently working on include: Searching for radio pulsars and Fast Radio Bursts using the CHIME Telescope, Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico and the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, in support of the NANOGrav collaboration which aims to detect gravitatational radiation from distant supermassive black holes. X-ray observations of magnetars and high-magnetic field radio using NASA's X-ray missions Swift, NuSTAR, Chandra and ESA's X-ray mission XMM-Newton, in order to understand the overall neutron star 'zoo'. Developing pulsar and fast radio transient instrumentation and algorithms for the upcoming CHIME telescope, currently being built in Penticton, British Columbia.
Research Interest
Neutron stars: timing, high-precision timing, searching, birth properties, evolution, supernova remnant associations, pulsar wind nebulae; binary dynamics, binary evolution, high-energy properties (X-ray, γ-ray). Radio transients: rotating radio transients, Fast Radio Bursts.
