Biography
Dr. Hermênio Lima is a Dermatologist and Clinical Immunologist. He finished medical school at the Federal University of Ceará (Fortaleza, CE, Brazil). After completing his Medical School, Dr. Lima started his PhD in Tropical Public Health with major in Immunology and minors in Molecular Biology and Tropical Medicine from Harvard School of Public Health (Boston, MA, USA). He was appointed Research Scientist at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO, USA). He returned to Brazil as research scientist to the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto University of São Paulo (Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil). In 1997, he was appointed to the position of adjunct professor of Immunopathology at Federal University of Santa Catarina (Florianópolis, SC, Brazil). He then decided to complete his dermatology residency training in the same University. From 1999 to 2003, he helped to establish the new School of Medicine of the University of Southern Santa Catarina (Tubarão, SC, Brazil) responsible for creating the disciplines of Immunology, Dermatology and Allergy & Immunopathology, and where he was appointed as professor of Dermatology in 2001. In 2003, he accepted the position as head of Clinical Immunology and Allergy discipline at Federal University of Parana (Curitiba, PR, Brazil). In 2008, took a leave of absence from Federal University of Parana at Clinical Unit for Research Trials in Skin (CURTIS) - Massachusetts General Hospital - Harvard University (Boston, MA, USA) where he was appointed as Research Fellow. He went back to Brazil, to reassume his Associate Professor position at the Department of Medical Pathology and Head of Discipline of Clinical Immunology at Federal University of Paraná until 2010. He was also an effective faculty of the Discipline of Dermatology, Department of internal medicine, Federal University of Parana (Curitiba, PR, Brazil). He was appointed Associate Professor at Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine McMaster University in 2010. Dr. Lima is an effective member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatology and the Brazilian Society of Allergy and Immunopathology. His main research interests are in the area of Immunodermatology. Dr. Lima published 55 articles in specialized journals, and has 217 citations in ISI Web of Science and index of 11. He wrote 1 book and 4 book chapters. He was the main mentor of 7 doctorate, and 10 master degree students in Brazil. Furthermore, he was co-responsible for the training of over 20 medical residents in dermatology in Brazil.
