Biography
Ryan C.N. D’Arcy, Ph.D is a neuroscientist and renowned expert in brain imaging, is the chief inventor and architect of the Halifax Consciousness Scanner (HCS). He was formerly Head and Senior Research Officer of National Research Council’s (NRC) Institute for Biodiagnostics (Atlantic). He is now Professor and British Columbia (BC) Leadership Chair in Medical Technology at Simon Fraser University and Surrey Memorial Hospital/Fraser Health and has appointments at Dalhousie University as an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology, Psychology/Neuroscience, Anatomy/Neurobiology, and as Medical/Scientific staff at the QEII and IWK Health Centres in Halifax. His expertise is in electroencephalography (EEG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and magnetoencephalography (MEG). He has over 140 published works and has won numerous awards of distinction. He has attracted over $50M of investment into advanced biomedical imaging. Dr. D’Arcy received his B.Sc. from University of Victoria (with distinction) and both his M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Dalhousie University. He did his post-doctoral training in Diagnostic Imaging at the National Research Council (NRC) before starting the Institute in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
