Biography
Ada S. Jaarsma is Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Humanities. She teaches courses in continental philosophy, existentialism, feminist philosophy, philosophy of science and philosophy of sex and love. Her book Kierkegaard After the Genome: Science, Existence and Belief in this World (Palgrave Macmillan 2017) makes the case for the existential import of placebos, epigenetics and science studies. Ada researches the philosophical implications of placebos and placebo effects with Dr. Suze Berkhout (University of Toronto). She's completing a co-edited collection on dissonant methods of teaching in the Humanities. She is currently writing about epigenetics, nocebos and critical race theory.
