Biography
Cecilia Sessarego holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the Graduate Division of Educational Research at the University of Calgary, and received her B.Ed. from the Instituto Nacional Superior del Profesorado in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At Mount Royal, she has been teaching a variety of Spanish language, culture, critical thinking and translation courses. Her research has focused on second language acquisition (SLA) theory, teaching methodology, the development of pragmatic language ability, curricular design, and teaching translation. She has worked on new curricula for the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Spanish at Mount Royal University. Her publications include articles in Hispania (AATSP, USA), Estudios de LingüÃstica Aplicada (ELA-México) and Notos (ISLC, Alberta Teachers' Association). Her latest article appeared in Hispania in September 2016. Her book chapter in " L2 Spanish Pragmatics: From Research to Practice" will be published by Routledge in late 2017. Additionally, Cecilia is a Certified Member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (EN/ES). She has done freelance translation work on a variety of fields and has published five translated short stories in Translit, an Anthology of Literary Translations of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta. She has also been a reviewer for a number of published literary translations. She is currently working on an article on the teaching of translation from a discourse-pragmatic perspective using the web as corpus.
