Peter Duthie

Biography

Peter Duthie has taught in the Mount Royal University English Department since 1982 and in the University of Calgary Management Certificate Program since 2000. He received his Masters of Arts degree from the University of Calgary’s English Department in 2000, and his thesis – an edited edition of Joanna Baillie’s Plays on the Passions – was published by Broadview Press soon after. As founder and president of Folio Gallery Inc., he annually publishes the Scotia Waterous collection of photographic books and sits on the Calgary Exposure board. Over his career, Peter has helped a diverse range of students develop their writing and reading skills. Sensitive to how writing is a natural extension of a sense of self, he creates a non-threatening environment in which all participants can feel comfortable contributing and asking questions. His students are encouraged to explore multiple options for improving the effectiveness of their writing rather than simply seek a single, limited ‘right’ answer. He received the MRU Distinguished Faculty/Teaching Award in 1999

Research Interest

His research interests include anarchism, the politics and poetics of infrastructure, petrocultures, and media studies.
