Uthpala Senarathne Tennakoon

Biography

Dr. Uthpala Senarathne Tennakoon is an Assistant Professor in Human Resources, in the Bissett School of Business, Mount Royal University, Calgary. She obtained her PhD in Human Resources & Organizational Dynamics from the University of Calgary. She has a diverse academic and professional background with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering and a MBA in Management of Technology (University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka). She is also a fully qualified management accountant with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK. Prior to joining the academia, as a business professional, I led the new business ventures division of a conglomerate of 15 companies, and prior to that was a business analyst for a development financial institution. Uthpala’s research program explores work/nonwork interactions and their implications to individuals, organizations and the greater society. Combining the interests of interaction between individuals and technology, her PhD research examined the implications of information and communication technology (ICT) on work-life balance of individuals. Currently one of her major research projects is exploring the Return on Investment of Life-Friendly practices of organizations. The research programs have led to multiple academic journal publications, numerous conference presentations, and media interviews. Uthpala is passionate about working with students, and engaging them in meaningful and relevant research projects.
