Biography
Alexander Wong is a managing director of D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. and head of venture capital at the D. E. Shaw group. Dr. Wong has more than 20 years of operating, technical, private equity, and venture capital experience in the technology industry. His investment experience spans a wide range of areas, including clean and emerging technologies, next-generation semiconductor design and manufacturing, software tools, displays, and nanotechnology. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Dr. Wong was a partner at Apax Partners, a global private equity firm, where he lead that firm’s investment activities in clean energy, emerging technologies, and components in the North American market. Before that, he served as a managing director at Intel Capital, the venture capital unit of Intel Corporation, where he was head of the technology sector and responsible for investments and mergers and acquisitions for Intel’s technology and manufacturing, microprocessor, and technology research groups. Dr. Wong has also held roles in operations, research and development, and government affairs at Intel Corporation, Motorola, Inc., and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Infinite Power Solutions, Inc., Natrix Separations, Inc., and Solaicx, Inc. Dr. Wong holds a B.S. in computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
