Biography
Hans Matthews, B.Sc, P.Geo, is from the Anishnawbek Nation, Ontario, Wahnapitae First Nation. He is a professional geologist, earth scientist, and an Aboriginal leader having held several senior positions in the mining, environment and energy fields. Hans is president of the Canadian Aboriginal Minerals Association, a group he co-founded with other prominent Aboriginal leaders in 1992. His breakthrough skills in bringing together the mining industry and communities helped establish better relations, mutual benefits and community participation and decision making in Canada's resource sector. Hans has introduced addressing the environmental and social impacts of resource development through his current role as Chair of the Shkagamik Kwe Health Centre and co-founder of the Aboriginal Environmental Leadership Circle (AELC), and former directorship roles in Mining and Aboriginal Community services at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, National Energy Board, University of Sudbury and the Prospectors Developers Association of Canada and as Councillor Wahnapitae First Nation.
