Christine De Meulemeester

Biography

Dr. Christine De Meulemeester is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Ottawa and the Director of the Adult Neurology Residency Program. Dr. De Meulemeester (nee Hitchcock) was born and raised in Toronto. She obtained her BScN from the University of Ottawa in 1987 and worked as a registered nurse on the neurology/neurosurgery ward at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and in the cardiac recovery room and cardiac surgical unit at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute prior to attending medical school at McMaster University. While in medical school she worked part-time in the ICU at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Dr. De Meulemeester obtained her MD degree in 1992 and completed her neurology residency training at the University of Ottawa in 1997. She has been on staff at the Ottawa Hospital since 1997. Her two main areas of clinical interest are stroke and multiple sclerosis. Dr. De Meulemeester has a strong commitment to education. She was Chair of the neuroscience curriculum at the University of Ottawa from 2006 to 2008, and has been a problem based learning tutor for years. Dr. De Meulemeester has been an examiner on the FRCP board for Neurology since 2002, and is Vice-chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialty Committee in Neurology. –
