Biography
Mr. Wafforn joined Pan American early in 2004, bringing with him 24 years of mining engineering and operating experience to the company primarily in underground mining. Since 2007, Mr. Wafforn has led the safety department at Pan American Silver to instill a strong culture of safety throughout the organization and has worked with the operations to achieve lost time injury statistics that rank amongst the best in the industry. Mr. Wafforn was involved in the feasibility studies for the Alamo Dorado, Manantial Espejo and San Vicente mines, the evaluations of the Navidad project and the Dolores mine, as well as the technical aspects of the successful operation of the company’s mines. Most recently, he led the technical evaluations for the expansions of the La Colorada and the Dolores mines, both of which are currently in progress. Mr. Wafforn spent the 15 years prior to joining our company with Barrick Gold and its predecessor Homestake where he worked as Manager of Mine Engineering for Barrick’s global operations, providing engineering expertise to mines and projects around the world. He holds a B.Sc Mining Honours from the Camborne School of Mines in England and is registered as a P.Eng in British Columbia, where he acts as a Qualified Person for the company.
